Queensland rail closure enables major upgrades over Easter
16.04.2025
Queensland rail services will pause during Easter to enable major upgrades, affecting the Beenleigh and Gold Coast lines from April 18 to April 21. This is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

Passengers traveling across the Queensland network should prepare for changes, as all train operations between Boggo Road/Park Road and Varsity Lakes will halt over the four-day period. Express and all-stops bus replacements will operate throughout the closure.

Queensland crews accelerate rail upgrades and maintenance
Queensland Rail will complete scheduled track maintenance and substation servicing at Robina. These works are crucial for maintaining safety and ensuring operational reliability across the network.
Signal systems between Beenleigh and Varsity Lakes will undergo modernisation, improving communication and efficiency for future services. The Loganlea Station Relocation project will also move forward during this time.
Crews supporting the Cross River Rail project will focus on sites including Yeerongpilly, Salisbury, Dutton Park, and Clapham Yard. Tasks will involve concrete pouring, steel installation, drainage improvements, and earthworks to support the broader expansion plan.
Queensland infrastructure to benefit from coordinated efforts
Farther south, construction at Hope Island and Merrimac stations will advance. Workers will carry out excavation, pour platform foundations, and install structural components to maintain project timelines.
Queensland Rail coordinated with multiple contractors and teams to align works, reducing the need for future disruptions and fast-tracking regional rail improvements.
Service will resume with the first train on Tuesday, April 22. Customers are advised to check updated timetables and plan ahead.
Neil Backer, Queensland Rail’s Head of South East Queensland, stressed the importance of the closure. “This schedule allows us to complete a huge amount of work safely and efficiently during a quieter period,” he noted.
He acknowledged the temporary inconvenience for passengers, but emphasized the long-term benefits. The project supports a safer and more reliable transport network for all of Queensland.
