Queensland Injects $600 Million into Faster Rail Expansion
20.06.2025
Queensland will invest an extra $600 million in Logan and Gold Coast Faster Rail to launch pre-construction and accelerate infrastructure delivery ahead of the 2032 Olympics. This is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

The 2025–26 budget includes $300 million from the State Government and $300 million from the Federal Government. This follows a March agreement with the ActivUs consortium for design and pre-construction work.

Queensland’s project will double tracks between Kuraby and Beenleigh, expanding from two to four lines. It also includes upgrades to multiple stations, removal of five level crossings, and improved local connectivity.
Transport and Main Roads Minister Brent Mickelberg emphasized the scale of the development. He said the project is one of several major infrastructure programs ahead of the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
“We’re delivering Faster Rail to the Gold Coast so more Queenslanders can get home quicker,” he said. “This investment strengthens our promise to connect South East Queensland communities.”
Queensland Targets Faster Rail for 2032 Games
The Faster Rail initiative aligns with long-term goals to meet the needs of a growing population. It will improve daily commutes, enhance station access, and ensure lasting benefits beyond the Games.
Mickelberg stressed the importance of building legacy transport systems. He noted that timely action supports both economic growth and regional development across Queensland.
Queensland Partners with ActivUs to Deliver Major Upgrades
The ActivUs consortium, selected earlier this year, is responsible for delivering design and pre-construction tasks. Their work will lay the foundation for a modernized rail system spanning 20 kilometers.
With funding secured and planning underway, Queensland’s investment ensures the region can handle future demand while delivering tangible benefits now.
