Queensland Expands Rail Capacity with Major Investment

Spanning 20,000 square meters, the facility in Ormeau will service passenger trains built in Maryborough under the Queensland Train Manufacturing Program. Construction is scheduled to begin later this year.

Currently, earthworks are underway on site. During construction, more than 100 jobs will be created, and once operational, the facility will provide around 140 ongoing positions.

The Queensland Government aims to strengthen its rail network to meet growing regional demand and future transport needs, especially ahead of the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Queensland Backs Local Rail Manufacturing and Jobs

Minister for Manufacturing Dale Last highlighted the facility’s significance for the expanding train fleet in the state. He stressed that Queensland must prepare its transport system for future growth.

“This facility is vital to maintaining the new fleet and will support the development of skilled jobs right here,” he said. “It’s a key part of the broader rail investment strategy.”

By investing in rail maintenance infrastructure, Queensland boosts its ability to deliver reliable, modern public transport. The facility reinforces the state’s focus on local production, job creation, and long-term economic development.

This project represents more than a construction milestone. It marks a commitment to smart infrastructure planning and sustainable transport systems that benefit the region for decades to come.
