Track maintenance vehicle powered by hydrogen
21.03.2024
In Austria, a track maintenance vehicle has been successfully upgraded to run on hydrogen traction, this is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.
Engineers from mZERO company replaced the diesel engine with hydrogen fuel cells from Accelera, manufactured by Cummins, with a power output of 122 kW.
Additionally, the vehicle has been equipped with a block of battery packs to enhance its energy efficiency and reduce dependence on external energy sources.
The project received financial support from the Austrian Research Promotion Agency (FFG), highlighting the importance and prospects of this direction in the transportation industry development.
This initiative aligns with global trends as companies like Cummins and Hydrogenics actively pursue the integration of hydrogen technologies into various modes of transportation.
Collaboration with Leclanché also underscores the growing interest in battery and hydrogen solutions in the railway and maritime industries.
This project serves as another example of the commitment to sustainable development and the transition to alternative energy sources in the transportation sector.
