In Astana, at the TSO “Stadler Kazakhstan” factory, mass production of passenger trains for JSC “Passenger Transportation,” a subsidiary of Kazakhstan Temir Zholy (KTZ), has begun. This is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

The project envisions the production of 557 trains by 2030. This was reported by the KTZ press service.

The factory will produce various types of trains, including compartment, sleeper, specialized trains for people with disabilities, and generator cars. Currently, more than 400 employees are working at the plant to ensure the completion of all production stages.
The production process includes several key stages. First, the welding and painting of train bodies is carried out, followed by the assembly of electrical components and the installation of wheelsets.
After that, interior elements are installed, and static and dynamic tests are conducted before the trains are released. All these processes guarantee the high quality of the manufactured trains.
The Production Process of Stadler Trains in Astana: How It Works?
The first batch of 51 trains will be delivered to JSC “Passenger Transportation” later this year, as stipulated in the contract. The factory will also provide maintenance for the delivered trains for 20 years. This is an important aspect because these trains must be kept in operational condition over an extended period.
In 2022, Stadler won an international tender and was selected as a partner for the passenger train production project in Kazakhstan.
For this project, the “Tulpar” plant was established in Astana. Within the framework of this project, the level of local production will gradually increase, starting from 9.4% in 2025 and reaching 35.2% by 2029.
Stadler’s Role in the Development of Kazakhstan’s Railway Infrastructure
This approach will not only improve the quality of the produced trains but also create additional jobs and contribute to the development of domestic production in the railway transportation sector. Moreover, increasing local production will help reduce dependence on imports and strengthen the country’s economic potential.
In addition, these measures will allow Kazakhstan to strengthen its position in the international market for the production and maintenance of railway equipment.
The gradual increase in the share of local components in train production will also contribute significantly to technological development. As a result, Kazakhstan will gain not only new trains but also its own highly skilled workforce, making the country more competitive in the global market.
Thus, the project in Astana is an important step in modernizing Kazakhstan’s railway network. Stadler’s train production will create new jobs, improve passenger service quality, and support the growth of domestic manufacturing in the transportation sector.
