Port of Police to Receive a Railway Connection

PKP Polskie Linie Kolejowe announced a tender for railway construction in autumn 2024. In early 2025, a contractor was selected, and the contract was awarded to the construction company Torpol.

The project includes the construction of an electrified railway line connecting the port to Police station. To enhance cargo transportation efficiency, five new tracks, each 750 meters long, will be built.

The terminal’s management is planning infrastructure expansion, so a new 300-meter-long quay is being developed. This upgrade will enable the port to accommodate vessels up to 230 meters in length, increasing cargo handling capacity.

Port of Police Development – New Investments and Prospects

The European Union has supported the project, providing funding through the Connecting Europe Facility, totaling €74M. According to the plan, all construction work must be completed within 31 months.

The terminal administration aims to attract new investors because further expansion of its facilities is planned. In the coming years, cargo turnover is expected to rise from 2 million to 2.5 million tons annually.

Unlike other major Polish ports, Police is not state-owned but privately operated. The owner is Grupa Azoty Police, which remains the terminal’s largest client and main investor.

One of the key advantages of the harbor is its access to a strategic waterway connecting Szczecin and Świnoujście. In recent years, the channel depth has been increased to 12.5 meters, allowing the handling of larger vessels.

Investors see this project as strategically crucial for modernizing Poland’s transportation system. Improved infrastructure will drive economic growth and expand the country’s international trade connections.

Experts predict that port modernization will increase its competitiveness among Europe’s leading maritime terminals. Enhanced transport links will attract additional investments and broaden the region’s logistics capabilities.

The development of railway connections will reduce transport costs and speed up cargo processing. This will optimize logistics processes, creating more favorable conditions for international trade and business.

The terminal’s management is confident that railway construction will open new opportunities for route expansion. As a result, the volume of cargo handled at the port will grow, along with the number of business partners.

Thus, the project’s implementation will strengthen Poland’s position as a key logistics hub in Europe. Modern infrastructure will create new opportunities for economic growth and international freight transportation.
