PolRegio carries 50.9 million passengers in H1 2026

POLAND: PolRegio passenger numbers reached 50.9 million in the first half of 2026, up by more than 200,000 while new and restored regional connections widened its service offer.

PolRegio’s official half-year results, published on 23 July, show that May was the busiest month of the period. The operator carried 9.1 million passengers, its strongest May result in ten years.

Growth also continued through the second quarter. From April to June, PolRegio trains carried over 400,000 more passengers than in the same three months of 2025.

PolRegio passenger numbers rise across three regions

Łódź Voivodeship recorded the largest percentage increase in the first six months, with passenger traffic rising by more than 12% year on year. Western Pomerania followed with growth of 9.5%, while Warmia-Masuria recorded a 5.6% increase.

The year-on-year increases differed by region. PolRegio associated its wider passenger gains with new links, restored services, longer routes and additional frequencies.

New and restored routes widen the regional offer

The summer timetable change introduced on 14 June added several passenger-facing changes. Regular Białystok–Łomża services began after a 33-year break, with four train pairs on weekdays and three at weekends. Two services extend to Ostrołęka.

Rail services also returned to the 9.6 km Nowy Sącz–Marcinkowice section. PolRegio scheduled 14 train pairs on weekdays and nine at weekends and on public holidays. A direct weekend connection between Bydgoszcz and Ciechocinek joined the timetable as well.

Elsewhere, the operator introduced the Chorzew Siemkowice–Łódź Kaliska link, resumed trains on the Olsztyn–Korsze–Ełk route and increased frequencies on selected regional corridors. In early July, new fare offers for families, cyclists and organ donors were introduced in Świętokrzyskie.

PolRegio Chairman Andrzej Pawłowski said the company works with regional authorities to prepare timetables, launch seasonal trains and increase service frequency.
