For the first time in the company’s history, PKP Intercity has applied for funding for the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) project.

PKP Intercity applies for funding to equip 104 locomotives with ERTMS

This is reported by the railway magazine Railway Supply with reference to nakolei.pl.

The company intends to raise 4.24 million euros (about PLN 19.5 million) to equip more than 100 locomotives with the European Rail Traffic Management System (ERTMS).

At the first stage, the application submitted by PKP Intercity under the Connecting Europe Facility 2021-2027 (CEF 2) program received a positive opinion from the Ministry of Finance and Regional Policy.

The proposal is now awaiting evaluation by the European Commission. The decision of the commission for the selection of projects for co-financing is scheduled for June this year.

PKP Intercity plans to receive 4.24 million euros (about PLN 19.5 million) to co-finance ERTMS in 2022-2026.

The Connecting Europe Facility Fund (CEF) for the new financial outlook 2021-2027 was established in July 2021 in accordance with a European Union regulation.

The main tasks of CEF are the construction, development, modernization and completion of trans-European networks in the sectors of transport, energy and digital technologies.

The budget allocated for transport is 25.8 billion euros, 12.83 billion euros of which is a common pool available to all EU countries
