PKP CARGO SA has completed its program of purchasing modern multisystem locomotives and wagons for intermodal transport, according to the Railway Supply magazine.

The company received funding from EU funds.

As part of the program, PKP CARGO has acquired five multisystem electric locomotives and 220 wagons.

Container transport platforms were provided by a consortium of companies from the Greenbrier Group, such as Wagony Świdnica and ASTRA RAIL Industries.

The purchased wagons belong to the Sggrss series and have an 80-foot load capacity. The locomotives were manufactured and supplied by Siemens. The entire fleet has been specially adapted for intermodal transport in the international market.

The total purchase value of locomotives and wagons amounted to approximately 243.5 million Polish zlotys.

Of these, co-financing from EU funds based on the agreement with the European Union’s Center for Transport Projects, concluded in 2018, exceeded 92 million Polish zlotys.

PKP CARGO utilized a subsidy under the Operational Program “Infrastructure and Environment” for 2014-2020, specifically related to the development of maritime transport, inland waterways, and multimodal connections.
