Pesa has successfully completed the final stage of acceptance testing of its first SM42-6Dn hydrogen shunter in Zmigrod. A special mobile hydrogen filling station was prepared at the test site, thanks to which all dynamic tests could be carried out efficiently. Railway Supply magazine writes about this with reference to Nakolei.

“We have completed all studies as planned. Now it’s time to prepare the documentation for certification, then the homologation procedure. We assume that the locomotive will start operating in April on the territory of the Petrochemia company in Płock,” the company concluded.

At the end of the tests in Zmigrod, Pesa invited more than a dozen Polish and foreign freight carriers to a special presentation of the SM42-6Dn locomotive with a demonstration of hydrogen refueling from a mobile station and test drives.

The presence of several dozen representatives of freight and intermodal carriers confirms the interest in the project of our hydrogen shunting diesel locomotive. In addition to the modernization of the SM42-6Dn, we will offer customers on the Polish and European markets new hydrogen locomotives. Work on these projects within the platform of zero-emission locomotives and passenger vehicles is already underway,” said Krzysztof Zdziarski, Chairman of the Board of Pesa.

Green Pesa is one of the key elements of the Pesa2026+ strategy implemented by the company. It involves not only the production of emission-free, battery and hydrogen rail vehicles, but also the reduction of CO2 emissions both in production and throughout the company’s activities.
