Pakistan Railways Achieves $300M Revenue and Modernizes Freight Fleet

Pakistan Railways has earned a record $300 million over the past 11 months, driven by higher passenger and freight revenues, as well as gains from modernization of its logistics infrastructure. This is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

Passenger services contributed approximately $151 million, while freight trains generated around $104 million. Additional streams, including auxiliary operations, added nearly $43 million to the total revenue.

The Karachi Division led performance with $47 million from passenger traffic and $90 million from freight operations. Lahore Division followed with $36 million and $2.7 million respectively.
Rawalpindi and Multan Divisions each contributed about $14.4 million from passenger services. Overall, Pakistan Railways outperformed the previous year’s total of $277 million.
Pakistan Railways Expands High-Capacity Freight Wagon Fleet
To boost logistics performance, Pakistan Railways introduced 30 new high-speed wagons manufactured domestically to international standards. Each unit can carry 60 tons of cargo and supports evolving business needs.
At the launch event in Lahore Cantt Station, CEO Aamir Ali Baloch called it a “transformational leap” for national freight. So far, 250 wagons have entered service, with 600 more expected by year-end.
Pakistan Railways Targets Growth Through Modernization and Cost Efficiency
The CEO emphasized that rail freight is cheaper than road transport, helping traders cut costs while boosting reliability. He added that the upgrades will reduce shipping times and improve overall competitiveness.
Minister Hanif Abbasi reaffirmed the agency’s long-term vision to rebuild Pakistan Railways through consistent efforts and strategic investments. He praised local industry’s role in producing advanced wagons.
By strengthening operations and infrastructure, Pakistan Railways is moving toward greater sustainability and efficiency. The new wagons will play a key role in reshaping the national logistics landscape.
