Operail has agreed to sell its Finnish freight operations to Nurminen Logistics
17.01.2023
Estonian state-owned logistics company Operail has agreed to sell its Finnish freight operations to Nurminen Logistics for 27.7 million euros. In this regard, a contract of sale was concluded. Operail started freight transport in Finland at the end of 2020. It is reported by Railway Supply magazine with reference to Railway Technology.
According to the company, the decision to sell the business was not caused by the Russian-Ukrainian conflict, although the war affected the sales process. Last year, the market scenario for 1,520 mm gauge railways significantly declined, the company stated, prompting its decision to completely withdraw from Finland.
Operail Finland’s daily operations will remain unchanged after the completion of the transaction, which is pending approval from the Finnish authorities. Existing employees of the enterprise will also be retained.
Finland-based Nurminen expects the acquisition to “significantly” boost its net sales and operating income starting this year. The company, which provides rail transportation, terminals as well as multimodal solutions, said the deal opens up new prospects for cooperation with rail operators in northern and central Europe.
