30.06.2024
Siemens Mobility has completed a six-year project to expand and modernize Line 14 of the Paris Metro, just one month before the start of the Olympic Games in Paris, this is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

This project marks a significant step in the development of the city’s transportation system, enhancing its efficiency and safety.

Initiated in 2018, the project involved doubling the length of Line 14 by 14 kilometers, upgrading the automation system to Trainguard MT CBTC, and replacing the outdated 26-year-old METERO GoA4 system.
Additionally, Siemens equipped a new centralized operations control station and provided 72 new trains, significantly improving passenger service quality.
One of the key goals of the project was to increase the line’s capacity, which is especially important ahead of the 2024 Olympics, when a significant increase in passenger numbers is expected.
According to Michael Peter, CEO of Siemens Mobility, the transition to the CBTC GoA4 system will allow Line 14 to serve up to one million passengers a day with an 85-second interval by 2025.
This achievement will be an important contribution to ensuring the efficient operation of Paris’s transportation system during the large-scale sporting event.
The project holds not only technical but also social significance.
The switch to the new automation system will improve transportation links between Orly Airport and central Paris, reducing travel time to 20 minutes and providing quick access to the city’s northern business districts.
This will not only facilitate movement for residents and visitors but also enhance overall comfort and safety.
However, the Line 14 project is just part of a broader program to modernize Paris’s transportation network.
Siemens is also actively working on installing CBTC technology on Lines 15, 16, and 17, as well as on the new Grand Paris Express lines.
These measures aim to create a more sustainable and efficient transportation system capable of meeting the city’s growing needs.
The completion of the modernization project for Paris Metro Line 14 marks an important milestone in urban infrastructure development, demonstrating how advanced technologies can improve quality of life and ensure high capacity for transportation systems in large cities.
