Ohio rail grants back five projects across the state
08.04.2026
Late last week, the Ohio Rail Development Commission (ORDC) announced grants for five rail projects. In total, Ohio rail grants came to $3.9 million. The package is linked to nearly $66.1 million in rail infrastructure investments.

Ohio rail grants and related investment
As Progressive Railroading reported, ORDC officials made that point in a press release. The funding assistance is tied to nearly $66.1 million in rail infrastructure investments. For example, two grants cover bridge and facility work. Meanwhile, the other three are tied to upcoming federal grants.
The Ross County engineer’s office will receive $300,000. The money will replace a roadway bridge spanning the state-owned Jackson Rail Line. Separately, Winchester Ag Service Inc. was approved for a $125,000 grant. That work will rehabilitate rail infrastructure at its Winchester facility. It will let the company serve a new plant operation about 20 miles away.

Federal rail improvement projects
ORDC also will provide three grants. They are tied to upcoming federal Consolidated Rail Infrastructure and Safety Improvements program grants. In addition, the U.S. Department of Transportation will issue them.
The three awards are:
- $1.75 million for a $46.5 million project on sections of the Indiana & Ohio Railway/WESTCO. It is designed to create full double-stack container clearance. The project covers sections from the Ohio-Michigan state line to Jeffersonville, Ohio.
- $1 million for a $10.4 million project on the 70-mile Cincinnati Eastern Railroad mainline. The line runs between Hamilton and Adams County.
- $700,000 for a $7.5 million project to upgrade 8.5 miles of the Wabash mainline. The upgrade runs from a Pergo turnout to the Indiana state line.
Next round of crossing projects
The ORDC also has authorized staff to sponsor several grade separation projects. They are aimed at the next round of the federal Railroad Crossing Elimination grant program. Those Ohio projects are planned in Fairfield, Toledo and three counties.
