The Istanbul Municipality has announced the replacement of four historic T1914 Taksim-Tunel model retro trams, which have been serving on Istiklal Street since 1990, this is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

The new trams will operate on batteries, capable of traveling about 150 km without recharging and accommodating up to 60 passengers.

They will retain the exterior appearance of retro trams except for the trolley pole and will keep the historical interior.

The new models are already undergoing testing before deployment on the city’s central lines.

Retro carriages, created between 1913-1926, will be preserved for historical heritage.
