ÖBB expands its fleet with Kiss trains for passenger convenience

The trains were manufactured for Westbahn in 2011 and 2017 with a maximum speed of 200 km/h. They are equipped with second-level ETCS, providing a high level of safety. DB acquired these trains in 2019, refurbished them in 2020-2022, and deployed them on East Germany routes.

However, insufficient capacity and maintenance costs in Vienna prompted DB to sell the trains. This deal allows ÖBB to reduce expenses and increase operational efficiency in the coming years.

ÖBB unifies railway operations with Kiss trains

Previously, ÖBB signed a contract with Stadler for the supply of up to 186 new Kiss trains. These measures will enhance passenger services, addressing the growing demand for comfortable travel.

Such developments in the railway network will strengthen ÖBB’s position among European transport operators.
