Siemens Mobility has been awarded a contract by Trans Regio to supply three Mireo Smart trains for the regional rail network, which are scheduled to enter service in December 2025.

Siemens and the Mireo Smart order

Siemens Mobility has signed a contract with Trans Regio for the leasing of 29 Desiro HC regional multiple units. The contract comprises three Mireo Smart electric trains and an eight years’ maintenance package.

The first train for delivery will be on 1 October 2025, only six weeks after the contract is signed. The complete fleet will also come into operation on the RB32 route as of December 14, 2025.

Characteristics of the Mireo Smart trains

The Mireo Smart trains are built for speeds of up to 160 km/h and offer a total of 214 seats, including 12 in first class. They feature WiFi, USB ports, and some multipurpose areas that hold 21 bicycles as well.

The windows are also designed to allow optimal cell phone connectivity. The fleet will be maintained at the Trans Regio depot in Koblenz. Siemens will, however, provide spare parts for the trains and support their digital monitoring through the cloud service Railigent X for predictive maintenance.

When will the Mireo Smart trains start operating?

The first train will be delivered on October 1, 2025, and the full fleet will begin service on the RB32 route on December 14, 2025.

What amenities are available on the Mireo Smart trains?

The trains offer 214 seats, including a first-class section, bicycle storage areas, Wi-Fi connectivity, USB charging ports, and windows optimized for better mobile signal reception.

Who will maintain the Mireo Smart trains?

Maintenance will be performed at the Koblenz depot, while Siemens will handle spare parts supply and digital performance monitoring via the Railigent X platform.
