Norfolk Southern Train Derailment Hits Alto Crossing

A Norfolk Southern train derailment occurred Thursday morning in Alto, Ga. The double-stack train struck a low-boy tractor trailer. The trailer had become stuck on a Georgia grade crossing. This is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

The 11:30 a.m. incident took place along Old Cornelia Highway at Yonah-Homer Road. That detail came from the Hall County Sheriff’s Office. Local officials reported that no one was injured.

In the Trains report, photos from the scene showed Norfolk Southern and BNSF Railway locomotives upright among trees beside the right of way. Officials said three locomotives and eight railcars derailed.
Alto is northeast of Gainesville, Ga., on Norfolk Southern’s Greenville District.
