Norfolk Southern appointment system begins August 24

The system will apply solely to international traffic at the two intermodal facilities. Domestic traffic is outside the scope announced in Norfolk Southern’s July 24 customer alert.

Norfolk Southern says the application is intended to streamline terminal access for pickups and drop-offs while providing a consistent process for partner drivers.

The Kansas City information sessions will take place on Wednesday, August 5, at 10:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. The venue is Element by Marriott North Kansas City, 1875 Diamond Parkway, North Kansas City, Missouri.

St. Louis will host its sessions on Thursday, August 6, at the same times. The meetings will be held at Marriott St. Louis Airport, 10700 Pear Tree Lane, St. Louis, Missouri.

Town halls will explain terminal requirements

Norfolk Southern Terminal Operations personnel will present the upcoming operational changes, system requirements and implementation timeline. Company managers, driver managers and driver leaders are specifically encouraged to attend one of the sessions.

The briefings are intended to ensure that customers and drayage partners—the trucking companies handling the short road movement to and from rail terminals—understand the procedures before the August 24 launch.

The appointment rollout follows an earlier access change in Kansas City. The terminal introduced 24-hour gate operations in August 2023, replacing previously limited Sunday and Monday hours.

Customers can also consult Norfolk Southern’s intermodal terminals and schedules directory for terminal details, origin and destination schedules, and live lift hours.
