Eight of these stations offer convenient transfers to other metro lines, easing travel and reducing congestion on busy routes. Trains built by CRRC Nanjing Puzhen reach speeds of up to 80 km/h, ensuring fast and comfortable journeys.

The northern section, 24 km long with 21 stations, opened in August 2025, while the southern segment began operation in March 2024. Now, passengers can travel along the entire line without transfers.

The economic role of Nanjing Metro

The Nanjing Metro plays a crucial role in driving the city’s economy because it enhances mobility for residents and tourists. Line 5 improves access to landmarks such as the Confucius Temple and the Nanjing Museum, one of the largest in China, boosting the city’s appeal.

Forecasts show that by 2045, the daily passenger volume will reach 1.214 million people. This projection highlights the strategic importance of the project for the city’s transport network and supports the growth of businesses along the new line.

The first metro line in Nanjing opened in 2005. Today, the network comprises 14 lines and 255 stations, with a total ridership of 1.092 billion trips recorded in 2024.

The construction of Line 5 was carried out by China Railway Group (CREC) in cooperation with local contractors. They implemented advanced technologies to enhance safety and shorten the construction period.

Experts recommend continuing the expansion of the network and integrating innovative solutions to increase environmental sustainability and passenger convenience. This is especially important as the city grows rapidly and demands efficient transport solutions.
