Mordialloc elevated station and prefabricated modular station construction

For the project, a total of 30 prefabricated building modules will be delivered and installed, eight of which have already arrived this year. These modules vary in size, weighing from about one tonne up to 40 tonnes each.

Once all components are in place and linked together, the station buildings will cover more than 750 square metres — roughly the area of three tennis courts. For the new elevated station at Mordialloc, this prefabricated modular station construction allows much of the work to be carried out off-site; the Victorian Government said this approach reduces build time and helps to minimise disruption for nearby residents, as highlighted in a project update on Victoria’s Big Build.

All-abilities access, public spaces and upgraded landscaping

Inside the new station, porcelain tile features in natural tones link the interior with the surrounding landscape and showcase the interior design and porcelain tile features of the new Mordialloc elevated station. The colours gradually lighten towards the ceiling, which helps to enhance the sense of space and natural light.

Located in the centre of Mordialloc, the station will provide new facilities, all-abilities access, improved lighting, public spaces and upgraded landscaping. Entrances at both ends of the station are designed to make access easier and more convenient for passengers.

Level crossing removal at McDonald Street and Station Street

At the same time, work is moving ahead on the removal of level crossings at McDonald Street in Mordialloc and Station Street in Aspendale. New rail bridges are being built to carry trains over the road network at these locations, as outlined on the Mordialloc level crossings project page from Victoria’s Big Build. The works and their place within Melbourne’s ongoing rail upgrades are also discussed by Railway Supply.

Late last month, crews completed installation of the L-beams at Station Street, Aspendale. Each beam weighs more than 120 tonnes and will form the U-trough that trains will run through. Work has also begun on installing the 44 L-beams that will create the elevated rail section north of Mordialloc Creek.
