New Amtrak Cascades Train Set Marks a Milestone in Passenger Rail

According to Amtrak’s official release, the first trainset in the series has successfully wrapped up testing at the Transportation Technology Center in Pueblo, Colorado.

It is now officially en route to the Northeast Corridor for further dynamic testing — a key milestone before its commercial debut.

In total, Amtrak plans to introduce 83 new Amtrak Airo trainsets nationwide, starting with the Amtrak Cascades corridor and later expanding to the Northeast Regional and other key routes.

The design of the new train reflects the Pacific Northwest’s natural character, featuring a modern interior and regional styling. Passengers will benefit from upgraded comfort, digital connectivity, and enhanced onboard services.

The pilot trainset was assembled in California and began testing in Pueblo in July 2025. It represents a significant step in Amtrak’s broader modernization program for intercity passenger rail.
