Canadian company VIA Rail has received new federal funding to upgrade its train fleet
On June 24th, MPK SA in Krakow began accepting bids for three lots totaling up to 90 modern low-floor trams with air conditioning.
Applications were submitted for three types of trams: up to 30 unidirectional trams, 32-34 meters long; up to 30 bidirectional trams of the same length; and up to 30 unidirectional trams, 42-45 meters long.
The consortium Stadler Polska and Stadler Środa, along with the Turkish company Bozankaya Otomotiv Makina İmalat İthalat Ve İhracat SA, submitted bids for unidirectional trams 32-34 meters long and bidirectional trams of the same length.
Bozankaya was the sole bidder for the longest variant, unidirectional trams 42-45 meters long.
When selecting the winner, MPK SA considered not only price proposals but also technical specifications of the trams.
However, according to MPK SA, the proposals exceeded the planned budget and did not fully satisfy the formal and technical requirements set by the organizer.
After the delivery of the new trams, MPK plans to completely phase out all trams without low floors and air conditioning.
This will make the entire tram fleet exclusively accessible to passengers with limited physical abilities, such as wheelchair users, as well as blind and visually impaired passengers, thanks to modern information and comfort systems.
