The 120 km railway route will be integrated into the Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T), providing Albania with railway connections to neighboring countries.

The project involves the reconstruction of 12 stations, installation of new signaling and communication systems, and infrastructure modernization, enabling trains to reach speeds of up to 120 km/h.

This is the second railway construction investment project undertaken by the EBRD in Albania. Previously, the bank provided a loan for the modernization of the railway route between Tirana and Durres.

The significance of such projects lies not only in modern technologies and increased travel speeds but also in creating a more efficient transportation infrastructure that contributes to economic development and improves the standard of living for the population.
