METRONET Extension Fueling Perth’s Urban Development

The METRONET Byford Rail Extension now offers direct connection between Byford and the Perth CBD with faster trips and contemporary facilities. The new Byford Station boasts world-class design, enhanced accessibility, and convenient interchanges throughout the network.

Premier Roger Cook stated, “METRONET has changed the face of Perth by keeping travel affordable, removing cars from our streets, and creating thousands of jobs in the past eight years.”

Engineers built eight kilometres of dual rail track, 22,000 sleepers, 72 kilometres of overhead wiring, and eight level crossings removed. These also boost safety and travelling efficiency and underpin 4,200 local jobs and sustainable city development.

Two new bridges at Eleventh Road and Thomas Road improve traffic efficiency and public safety. Elevated design also freed eight hectares of public land, providing new cycling and pedestrian routes that promote active and sustainable transport.

METRONET Generates Economic and Community Gain

The Armadale Line re-opening is a fulfillment of all the 2017 State Election METRONET promises. The last project, the New Midland Station, is set to open early in 2026, bringing a full-stop to a major Western Australia railway revolution chapter.

WA Transport Minister Rita Saffioti said, “Byford is Perth’s fastest-growing region, and for the first time, residents will be able to have direct access to a world-class train service that links them directly to new opportunities.”

Byford passengers are now able to get to the Perth CBD in 46 minutes. As of January 1, the new single-zone fare cap will make transport more affordable and faire than ever for families and regular commuters.

Federal Infrastructure Minister Catherine King also stated, “The recapture of the Armadale Line and extension will provide safer, faster, and more reliable journeys, with lasting advantages for the Perth community.”
