The $8 billion project encompasses construction of emergency exit structures, a train storage facility, and extensive relocation of key utilities at Finch Station. The project would enable integration with the existing TTC Line 1 service to increase transportation choices for commuters.

Construction is already underway in preparing the launching shafts for tunnel boring machines. The extension would then run for eight kilometers in the north, connecting Toronto, Vaughan, Markham, and Richmond Hill via underground and elevated stations.

Metrolinx Improves Commuter Mobility and Sustainability

Metrolinx expects the project to transform regional mobility by cutting travel times up to 22 minutes and attracting over 94,000 daily riders. The line will also reduce highway congestion and lower emissions by about 4,800 tonnes per year.

The new network will be integrated with the Richmond Hill GO transit service, the Highway 407 GO transit buses, the Viva rapid transit system, in addition to other corridors such as the Highway 407 Transitway.

All the new station series would incorporate wide concourses, elevators, and natural lighting. Such an architecture would represent Ontario’s vision for an integrated low-carbon transit system that promotes economic development.
