Melbourne Airport Rail Expansion: Radical Rebuild Planned for Tottenham and Albion Stations
25.05.2026
Melbourne Airport Rail stations are starting to take a more defined shape, with concept plans now released for two stops in the first stage of the project.

Under the plans, Tottenham Station would move around 20 metres north of its current location. Albion Station is also set to be rebuilt, with the new station positioned slightly east of the existing site.
Melbourne Airport Rail station designs outline Tottenham changes
Victoria’s Big Build says Tottenham Station will sit on the realigned Sunbury Corridor, keeping connections to Sunbury rail services that run through the Metro Tunnel. The station design includes lift and stair access to the new platforms, along with shelter and lighting for passengers.
The Tottenham plans also show a wider underpass linking the northern station car park with Sunshine Road. This route would be kept separate from Ashley Street. The Victorian Government says the connection will be well lit, making access safer and easier for passengers travelling between the station and future activity centres on both sides of the rail line.
Albion Station plans focus on access and passenger facilities
At Albion, the released designs include a new overpass with lifts and stairs leading to the central platform. The rebuilt station would also gain improved lighting, shelters and seating.
New pedestrian paths are planned on both sides of Albion Station to make access easier. The existing underpass connection would remain part of the station layout.
The public can view the station plans and submit feedback through Engage Victoria until 11.59pm on Sunday, June 14. Work is already underway to untangle more than six kilometres of track and transform Sunshine Station into a “superhub”, a wider stage of the Melbourne Airport Rail project that was previously covered by Railway Supply, unlocking capacity for 1000 train services each day.
