As part of the inquiry, investigators visited the accident site. They secured evidence, examined CCTV recordings, and coordinated with hospitals. They also requested post-mortem examinations and interviewed witnesses.
Police also plan to seek information from relevant institutions. These include spatial planning and public works offices, taxi operators, and the Directorate General of Railways.
Separately, taxi operators have been summoned, especially those operating electric vehicles. Police will also provide guidance on compliance with railway crossing safety rules.
The accident left 16 people dead and 91 injured, according to ANTARA.
Initial indications suggest the incident began when a commuter train hit an online taxi at a level crossing.
Meanwhile, a second train had stopped at the station. It was later struck from behind by the Argo Bromo Anggrek service.
