LTG Infra: Solar Panels on Noise Absorbing Screens
26.06.2024
LTG Infra has implemented an unprecedented pilot project in Lithuania—electricity will be generated by solar panels installed on noise-absorbing screens, this is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.
Next to the railway line Kiviškės-Vaičiūnai, LTG Infra installed a solar power station within the noise protection wall.
According to the company’s CEO, Vytis Zalimas, the pilot solar power station with a capacity of 22.2 kW has already supplied its first electricity to the grid and is expected to produce up to 14 MWh of electricity annually.
An interesting fact is that even such a small solar power station will save 420 tons of CO2 over its lifecycle and preserve more than 9,500 trees.
“If this project succeeds, in the future such solar power stations will allow more efficient use of noise protection wall areas. They will not only sustainably produce a portion of the required energy but also help suppress noise. Additionally, this solution will reduce the burden on the power grid since energy will be generated at the same location where it is consumed,” says Vytis Zalimas.
The noise protection wall is equipped with 60 double-sided SoliTek modules with a capacity of 370 W, which not only collect solar energy from both the front and back sides but also possess high durability, resistance to extreme loads, hail, and wind, and are equipped with independent cleaning effects.
