LTG Cargo acquires 500 grain hopper cars from Ukrainian manufacturers
11.07.2024
The company LTG Cargo, part of the LTG Group, has taken a significant step in developing its infrastructure by purchasing 500 grain hopper cars, this is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.
These new cars will enable the company to significantly increase its grain transportation capabilities, which is crucial given the growing demand for such services.
LTG Cargo Ukraine Prepares for a Major Freight Project from Ukraine to Lithuania
According to LTG Cargo’s head, Eglė Šimė, the new cars will help the company increase the volume of grain transported by rail to 60% of the total amount.
This is especially important for agricultural producers who need efficient and reliable solutions for transporting their products.
The new equipment will ensure more sustainable and competitive services, which will positively impact the business of the company’s clients.
The first cars will arrive in Lithuania in the coming months, with the remaining 300 to be delivered by the end of the year.
An additional 200 cars are expected to be delivered in the first quarter of 2025.
The updated fleet will be used to increase transportation volumes within the country and to the Klaipėda seaport, reducing road infrastructure congestion and improving transportation sustainability.
Transporting grain by rail is one of the most environmentally friendly methods of transportation.
One car can carry 2.5 times more grain than a truck, reducing the number of trips by 45,000 per year.
This will not only ease the burden on roads but also reduce carbon dioxide emissions, which is important in the fight against climate change.
Purchasing cars from Ukrainian manufacturers is a crucial step in strengthening cooperation with Ukraine and supporting it amidst Russian aggression.
LTG Cargo actively acquires parts and components from Ukrainian partners, providing an alternative to Russian and Belarusian supplies disrupted by the war.
Currently, LTG Cargo’s fleet for grain transportation consists of about 1,200 units, which are actively used in the current grain season.
The cars will be maintained by the company’s professional repair team, ensuring their reliable operation.
LTG Cargo continues to expand its activities in Western markets, providing services in cargo transportation, logistics, forwarding, locomotive and car repair, and car leasing both in Lithuania and abroad.
In 2023, the company transported 27.2 million tons of cargo, with revenues of approximately 286 million euros and a net profit of 17.5 million euros.
Thus, the acquisition of new cars will allow LTG Cargo not only to increase transportation volumes but also to strengthen its market position by offering clients even higher quality and more competitive services.
