Launch of Avelia Liberty high-speed trains by Alstom
31.05.2023
The launch of Avelia Liberty high-speed trains by Alstom in the United States is once again being delayed. The new fleet for the Acela service is now planned to be put into operation in spring 2024, deviating from the initial schedule by 3 years, according to the railway portal Railway Supply, citing Rollingstock.
The delay is attributed to difficulties associated with the completion of testing of high-speed railway wheels.
Alstom has already delivered 6 out of 28 eleven-car trains to the carrier, while the rest continue to be assembled at the Alstom plant in Hornell, USA.
The new train will have increased capacity compared to the current fleet (386 passengers, +25%) and will be capable of reaching a speed of 257 km/h, as opposed to the current 240 km/h of the Acela I.
It should be noted that the maximum speed of the Acela II is 300 km/h, but it is limited by the existing infrastructure.
