KTZ is negotiating the purchase of two battery locomotives
03.11.2021
At the III International Conference “Transport and Logistics Market” in Almaty, Nurlan Sauranbayev, the head of JSC NC CZ, shared measures to reduce the carbon emission.

“One of the advantages of overland rail routes is environmental friendliness and energy efficiency. If we look at the level of CO2 emissions in the transport sector, the emissions of railway transport are 8 times lower than in shipping, 9 times lower than aviation and 24 times lower than freight vehicles, ” said Nurlan Sauranbayev.
This was reported by the railway magazine Railway Supply with reference to rail-news.kz.
Within the framework of the EU low-carbon strategy, the development of rail transport plays a key role. At the suggestion of the European Commission, 2021 has been declared the Year of Rail due to the fact that rail transport, unlike other modes of transport, invariably reduces emissions. And here the emphasis on ecology leads to the renewal of the locomotive fleet. Hydrogen locomotives and battery-powered locomotives have been developed by world leaders in the machine-building industry.

The head of KTZ noted that KTZ is currently negotiating the purchase of two battery locomotives.
“If a standard shunting locomotive burns fuel worth about $ 150,000, a battery-powered locomotive consumes electric power for $ 20,000-30,000. The savings are $ 120,000 a month,” Sauranbayev said.
Gradual modernization and renewal of the locomotive fleet is aimed at improving environmental safety.
