KTZ and Wabtec will implement a cruise control program for freight locomotives
24.04.2023
The national railway company Kazakhstan Temir Zholy, in cooperation with Wabtec Corporation, is implementing a pilot project to introduce the Trip Optimizer program for freight trains. KTZh expects that the system will reduce the consumption of fuel and energy resources by at least 5%. Railway Supply writes about this with reference to tzdjournal.
Trip Optimizer is an adaptive cruise control project for General Electric’s Evolution series locomotives, which are assembled at the Lokomotiv Kyrastyru Zauyty plant in Astana. Trip Optimizer allows to control train speed based on an optimal fuel consumption model that takes into account many factors such as route, route profile, train composition and other conditions. The technology also analyzes the current state of the locomotive, which will effectively use its potential and reduce equipment wear.
Will Allegro trains go to Ukraine?
Last September, Wabtec Corporation and KTZ agreed to test the Trip Optimizer system. The companies also already have a contract for the supply in 2024-2028 of 150 shunting locomotives powered by FLXdrive batteries and sets for NextFuel diesel locomotives.
