A South Korean consortium has signed a contract with Centralny Port Komunikacyjny for the design of a high-speed railway line between Katowice and the Polish-Czech border, according to the Railway Supply portal, citing Nakolei.

design a high-speed line

This 70-kilometer section is part of the Katowice-Ostrava railway line.

Currently, over 400 kilometers of railway tracks for CPK are being designed.

This section is one of the key stretches of railway lines built in Poland. It is an important element of the EU’s Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T), connecting Katowice, Warsaw, and Krakow with Brno, Prague, Bratislava, Vienna, and Budapest.

The tender for the design of the line was won by a consortium of two companies.

The first is the state-owned company Korea National Railway (KNR), which has implemented railway construction projects, technical consultancy services, and technical and economic feasibility studies, including in the field of high-speed railways.

The second entity in the consortium is Dohwa Engineering, an engineering and construction company from South Korea, with over 7,000 projects on its account at national and international levels.

The contract is worth PLN 134 million.

Thanks to the new railway line, which is part of the Visegrád Group V4 railway, Upper Silesia will become an important transportation hub in the Three Seas region.

NZF reduces production volumes

The Polish section, to be implemented by CPK, will allow trains to travel at speeds of up to 250 km/h.

The project will include the integration of the town of Jastrzębie-Zdrój into the railway network, as well as new, much faster regional connections from Rybnik, Żory, and Wodzisław Śląski to Katowice.

This is a civilizational leap that will eliminate the communication isolation of this part of Silesia. The railway will serve up to 3.6 million residents of this region in Poland.

Within the investment, approximately 2,000 kilometers of new lines will be constructed, including the high-speed railway.
