In the first seven months of 2024, the number of container trains running on the “China – Europe” route increased significantly, this is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

Container Trains

According to data provided by “China Railways,” 11,403 trains were dispatched during this period.

Digitalization of Logistics: DUSS and Camco Implement New Technologies at the München-Riem Terminal

This figure exceeds last year’s comparable data by 1,222 trains, equivalent to a 12% increase.

The rise in the number of trains also led to a significant expansion in the volume of container rail transportation.

From January to July 2024, transportation volumes reached approximately 1.23 million TEU. This figure exceeds last year’s level by 0.122 million TEU, corresponding to an 11% increase.

Thus, there is a substantial increase in demand for rail transportation between China and Europe.

The growth in the number of container trains and the volume of transported goods can be attributed to several factors.

Firstly, there is a growing interest in more environmentally friendly and faster ways of delivering goods between Asia and Europe.

Rail transportation reduces delivery times, which is particularly relevant in the context of global supply chains that require high speed and reliability.

Secondly, there is a steady increase in demand for goods produced in China, stimulating an increase in freight volumes.

Furthermore, the development of infrastructure and modernization of railway networks also contribute to the growth of transportation volumes.

Modern container terminals and the implementation of new technologies in train traffic management help optimize processes and minimize delays along the route. This enhances the throughput capacity of the routes and reduces transportation costs.

The growth of container transportation between China and Europe is an important indicator of economic activity and demand for goods in both regions.

The increase in the number of trains and transportation volumes confirms that rail transport is becoming an increasingly preferred mode of delivery for many companies engaged in international trade.

This trend is likely to continue in the future, driving the development of new routes and increasing transportation volumes.
