The contract, signed on January 13, provides for the completion of all work within 14 months. The first construction work on the site will begin in February and last until the end of March 2023, according to the railway magazine Railway Supply, citing Koleje Dolnośląskie.

“The new facility will allow us to be very independent in the field of periodic inspections and repairs of the rolling stock and, therefore, will also bring savings. The expansion of service capacities is an important element in the implementation of Koleje Dolnośląskie’s development strategy for the coming years. We have invested in rolling stock and the expansion of reserve capacity is a natural addition to this activity,” said Witold Idczak, Vice President of Koleje Dolnośląskie.

The modernization and expansion of the facility is estimated at PLN 65 million (EUR 14.2 million), and part of the costs will be covered by co-financing from the Lower Silesian Voivodeship Office. The funds come from the EU Regional Development Fund under the Regional Operational Program of the Lower Silesian Voivodeship for 2014-2020. The initial amount of PLN 30.5 million (€6.7 million) provided by the Lower Silesia Authority was increased to PLN 48 million (€10.5 million).

Initially, the total cost of the project was estimated at PLN 45 million, “but due to rising prices for building materials, the costs associated with modernization have increased. As a result, the Lower Silesian Voivodeship decided to increase the amount of co-financing,” explained Wojciech Zdanowski, Vice President of Koleje Dolnośląskie.
