Knorr-Bremse has supplied Hitachi Rail with a batch of couplers for passenger trains.

According to the German company, these components will be installed on new metro trains in the coming weeks, this is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.
This marks Knorr-Bremse’s first-ever order for these components for passenger vehicles.

The framework contract, signed last February, covers the provision of couplers, braking, and door systems for 46 metro trains, with deliveries expected to conclude in the first quarter of 2026. Meanwhile, Hitachi Rail secured a tender to supply 21 trains for the Milan metro in November 2022, with an option for an additional 25 units.
Since 2019, Knorr-Bremse has developed the AutoLink coupler, the Semi-Permanent ShortLink coupler for passenger rolling stock, and the digital FreightLink coupler for freight cars.
By 2030, the company aims to lead the market in digital couplers (DAC) and other technical solutions for automating freight trains.
