China Sets Record in Passenger Transportation

China’s railways transported 1.86 billion passengers in the first five months of 2025, setting a new record in passenger transportation. This is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

This figure is 7.3% higher than in the same period of 2024. The national network operated 11,243 trains daily on average, a 7.5% increase year-over-year.

Domestic Passenger Transportation Hits All-Time High
May 1, 2025, marked a record-setting day with over 23 million passengers and 13,752 trains operating. These are the highest daily figures ever recorded by the company.
China’s rail network continues to expand both domestically and in international passenger transportation. Foreign passenger numbers rose to 7.67 million — a 29% increase over the same period in 2024.
International Passenger Transportation Strengthens CR’s Position
The China–Laos railway handled 124,000 passengers, up 24.2% year-over-year. Meanwhile, the high-speed Guangzhou – Shenzhen – Hong Kong line served 12.579 million passengers, growing 16.7% compared to last year.
Tourism traffic also saw a sharp rise. From January to May 2025, 630 tourist train journeys were completed — a 20.2% increase from 2024.
This steady growth reflects improved service, expanded routes, and passengers’ growing trust in rail travel as a reliable and efficient mode of passenger transportation.
