Morocco’s National Railways Office (ONCF) has signed a contract with China Railway No.4 Engineering (CREC 4), a subsidiary of the major rolling stock manufacturer CRRC.

The total cost of the project amounts to 3.4 billion Moroccan dirhams (316 million euros). This was the result of a large-scale tender involving several consortia and companies.

The competition for the contract was fierce, with bids reaching up to 4.2 billion dirhams (390 million euros). However, CREC 4 stood out thanks to a financially advantageous and technically sound proposal.

CREC 4 relies on the expertise of its parent company, CRRC, which is renowned for its large international contracts, spanning more than 116 countries.

This experience helps the company handle technically complex projects, such as the construction of the high-speed railway in Morocco.

The project involves not only the construction of a new line but also the modernization of existing infrastructure.

The high-speed railway will connect the cities of Kenitra, Rabat, Casablanca, and Marrakesh. Special attention is being given to the development of stations, the construction of technical maintenance bases, and workshops for high-speed trains.

Additionally, the route will pass through key sites such as the Rabat Tunnel and the Nouaceur hub, optimizing travel time and increasing the overall capacity of the railway network.

The implementation of the project is aimed at supporting the country’s economic growth. The high-speed line will reduce travel time between cities, boosting domestic and international investments.

It will also have a positive impact on regional employment, creating thousands of jobs during the construction and operation of the new mainline.

The project’s environmental aspect is also important to note. The adoption of advanced technologies that reduce carbon emissions demonstrates Morocco’s commitment to sustainable development principles.

High-speed railways are a more environmentally friendly mode of transport compared to road and air travel.

The use of modern technologies in the construction and operation of railway infrastructure can serve as an example for other African countries.

The Kenitra-Marrakesh project is not just about improving transport accessibility; it is also a significant step toward strengthening Morocco’s position as a hub for innovative and sustainable transportation.
