Kharkiv Metro will acquire 17 new five-car trains using funds from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), this is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.
This was announced by the Mayor of Kharkiv, Igor Terekhov.
“Despite all the difficulties of war, today we must lay a solid foundation for our successful future. Therefore, Kharkiv Metro, in collaboration with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, will acquire 17 new five-car trains,” noted Terekhov.
In the Kharkiv Metro, approximately 2,000 students are studying underground
According to him, the city authorities continue to work on a comprehensive project to extend the third metro line.
This project was initiated long before the full-scale invasion by Russia. Terekhov emphasized that the EBRD funds are earmarked and can only be used for the purposes for which they were allocated.
It is worth noting that due to constant rocket attacks on Kharkiv, landslides occur in the city, and because of multiple rocket hits in the immediate vicinity of the “Sportyvna” metro station, there was minor leakage from the station’s ceiling.
It should be reminded that the European Investment Bank (EIB) will allocate 30.7 million euros to Ukraine.
These funds are intended to improve the municipal infrastructure of the country and urban public transport in cities such as Kyiv, Odesa, Lviv, Lutsk, and Sumy. The EIB has also committed to further financial support for Ukraine until the end of the year.
