Kazakhstan to provide loan to KTZ for Stadler railcars purchase

Kazakhstan will provide a three-year 142.5 billion tenge state loan to KTZ. The funds, allocated from Samruk-Kazyna, are part of a purchase deal for Stadler passenger railcars by the national railway company.

Repayment period and loan conditions
50 billion tenge in 2026, 32.5 billion in 2027, and 60 billion in 2028. The eventual implementation, nevertheless, shall depend on the schedule of deliveries agreed with the manufacturer.

Large-series production and long-term engagement
Stadler has set up passenger railcar serial production this spring. The deal provides for the manufacture of 557 vehicles by 2030. The initial batch of 51 railcars is to be shipped by this year to Passenger Transportation JSC.
Maintenance and strategic importance of the project
The supplier is required to ensure 20-year technical maintenance of the supplied railcars. Therefore, the project is quite strategic, as it will modernize the fleet and increase passenger comfort and support railway development in Kazakhstan.

The government provides financial support in order to speed up fleet modernization and increase the quality of passenger services. Funding via Samruk-Kazyna provides a steady financial stream into the project.
When do the first new railcars arrive at KTZ?
The first batch of 51 Stadler railcars will be delivered to Passenger Transportation JSC this year, while the remaining units will be supplied gradually until 2030.
