Additionally, IR has ordered 81 partially double-decker electric trains from the German company Siemens Mobility as part of Israel’s railway network modernization and electrification strategy.

Previously, IR had also ordered 60 partially double-decker electric trains of the Desiro HC model from Siemens, with deliveries expected to be completed this year.

The total cost of these orders exceeds €1.7 billion.

According to plans, the new electric trains will play a key role in IR’s national electrification program, gradually phasing out outdated diesel single-decker trains like the Siemens Viaggio Light, supplied in 2008 and 2011.

The rolling stock from Alstom and Siemens will be a crucial component of modern railway infrastructure, providing Israel with an additional 22 million passenger seats.

This move underscores the country’s commitment to an efficient and environmentally sustainable public transportation system.
