Meanwhile, Benalla saw workers remove the old signal box while salvaging key components. They relocated the railway station’s power supply and upgraded infrastructure efficiently.
Euroa’s Birkett Street level crossing underwent significant enhancements to handle detour traffic smoothly. Teams widened approach roads, replaced ballast and sleepers, and upgraded the crossing system.
Broadford, Wandong, and Hume Freeway sites buzzed with geotechnical work and vegetation clearing. Safety barriers and fencing installations prepared these areas for major construction later this year.
Inland Rail Upgrades Drive Progress
John Holland, the B2A Tranche 2 construction partner, reported excavating 2,607 square meters of soil. They installed 886 meters of fencing, 800 meters of cable, and 110 meters of new rail.
Additionally, crews laid 170 new sleepers and set up 41 monitoring devices across sites. They added two boom gates, two flashing lights, and removed six redundant power poles.
The intensive work occurred during a rail service suspension from Saturday to Monday. Inland Rail scheduled the possession between 7 a.m. on March 22 and 7 p.m. on March 24.
In Victoria, Inland Rail enhances 262 kilometers of track for double-stacked freight trains. The project ensures sufficient height and width clearances between Beveridge and Albury for efficiency.
Ed Walker, Inland Rail Delivery Director, praised the possession as an outstanding achievement. He emphasized that teams completed all tasks safely within the tight 60-hour window.
Inland Rail Upgrades Support Communities
Moreover, Walker noted that Inland Rail secures only two major track possessions annually. This rarity makes meticulous planning essential for executing large-scale work without delays.
Teams coordinate efforts to minimize disruptions and maximize productivity during these critical periods. Consequently, they finish substantial improvements quickly and restore rail services promptly.
However, Inland Rail acknowledges the inconvenience caused to passengers and local communities. They express gratitude for the patience and understanding shown during the construction process.
The enhancements boost freight transport capabilities and improve regional connectivity significantly. Inland Rail continues advancing the project and delivering infrastructure improvements across Victoria.
This successful possession marks a key milestone in the Beveridge-to-Albury section’s development. It showcases effective collaboration and planning among construction teams and stakeholders.
Overall, Inland Rail strengthens Australia’s rail network and supports economic growth through modernization. The project’s progress reflects a commitment to safety, efficiency, and community consideration.
