Inland Rail Achieves Bridge Milestone in Broadford, Victoria
31.10.2025
Inland Rail has marked a significant milestone in Victoria’s Broadford region, as two new bridges were installed to increase the efficiency of freight services across Australia.
This is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

Inland Rail Strengthens Victoria’s Freight Infrastructure
Teams from construction partner John Holland worked together in a 15-hour overnight operation on October 27 to raise the new bridge structures at Hamilton Street and Short Street. The construction project will allow for the transport of double-stacked containers and upgrade one of the state’s busiest routes.

In the Short Street area, a 650-tonne crawler crane has been used to erect a 36-metre bridge made up of 38 girders erected at the construction site. This 265-tonne structure has become a dominant feature of the landscape at Broadford. Come next year, when the construction project is completed, the demolition of the old bridge follows.
On the Hamilton Street project, a 750-tonne mobile crane lifted five girders weighing approximately 40 tonnes each and measuring 35 meters long. These girders comprise the foundation structure of the new bridge. They were built to handle the heavier freight that will pass through the structure in the future.
Inland Rail Project Boosts Connectivity and Regional Growth
Inland Rail made progress in the area of signalling and site preparation at Tallarook and Seymour during the shutdown. All of the above activities are completed in order to advance the project.
Scott Anderson, the Acting Delivery Director for the Inland Rail Beveridge-to-Albury corridor, acknowledged the bridge installations as “continued momentum” at the remaining sites in the state of Victoria. “The national freight network is becoming a ‘hive of activity’ as Inland Rail provides improved transport connections that are faster, safer, and more sustainable,” Scott Anderson said.
Anderson further said: “Night freight has reduced the disturbance that the community has experienced. The community has been very patient as the project continues to transform the logistics network of Australia through the provision of efficient rail transport services between the port and other sectors.”
