The railway electrification program in India has significantly accelerated in recent years. Over the past five years, the share of electrified sections has almost doubled, from 50% to 95%.
This progress reflects the country’s desire to modernize its transportation systems, making them more efficient and environmentally friendly.
Railways play an important role in India’s national economy, and increasing the level of electrification allows for a significant reduction in fuel costs and carbon dioxide emissions.
Additionally, the success of the Vande Bharat electric train construction program was discussed at the conference. This project has become a flagship initiative for IR, aimed at improving safety and enhancing passenger comfort.
The use of new electric trains has helped reduce the number of accidents and incidents on the railways, emphasized Mukul Saran Mathur, a member of the Indian Railway Board.
The program for introducing innovative rolling stock is actively supported by the government and is aimed at the further development of the country’s railway transport.
Globally, China maintains its leadership in the length of electrified railways, with more than 119,000 kilometers.
This number is constantly growing, making China the undisputed leader in this area.
India continues to actively work on expanding its electrified network, striving to ensure sustainable development of railway transport and strengthen its position on the world stage.
The introduction of new technologies and the increase in the share of electrified tracks allow the country to keep pace with global trends aimed at improving the environmental situation and increasing the efficiency of transportation systems.
