The project will be launched in a pilot mode in separate depots. Experienced drivers with a high class of qualification will be involved, informs Railway Supply magazine with reference to rail-news.kz.

The discussion was attended by heads of departments of the state enterprise and locomotive operating depots. The head of the pilot project Ivan Kostyrya is sure that the drivers will cope with this task.

“With the development of technology and the introduction of innovations, the transition to one-person management is becoming a real opportunity. In many countries around the world, drivers drive trains without an assistant, “he said.

In passenger traffic, “one-person” control will be carried out as the locomotive fleet is restored or re-equipped. In shunting traffic, locomotives designed to be operated in “one person” will be equipped with second control panels, rear-view mirrors in both directions, a remote release device and a self-coupling.

According to the initiators of the project, this is done to increase productivity, and for drivers who will drive trains without an assistant, there wiil be a supplement to the salary.
