IBEW Reaches New Five-Year Labor Agreement with Union Pacific

The IBEW negotiated a five-year contract with Union Pacific, guaranteeing wage raises, increased benefits, and expanded leave policies. It marks the union’s efforts towards receiving fair treatment and better workplace benefits.

Raises and Enhanced Benefits for IBEW Members
Under the agreement, employees shall have a combined wage increase of 18.77% per annum during the course of the contract. Also, the contract provides for expanded health coverage, a newly introduced high-deductible plan option, and expanded bereavement leave including grandparents and grandchildren.

Workers are allowed to bank up to 32 hours of unused sick time each year, up to a maximum of 160 hours. At the end of the year, cash-out opportunities give workers more flexibility in their finances.
Paid Leave and Vacation Improvements
It also introduces paid vacation for newcomers, with increased accrual for old-timers. As such, rookies and old-timers alike will see substantial improvements in vacation pay accruals and usage.
Officials at the union emphasized the pact signifies unity and supports site equity in pay. But the upgrades extend beyond compensation, offering a firmer base for long-term labor well-being.

IBEW International President Kenneth Cooper called the contract a victory for organized labor. As he described it, it secures the economic well-being of employees as well as a healthier workplace in the future.
