Hoboken PATH fire stops service at Hoboken through Feb. 27
28.02.2026
A Hoboken PATH fire at the terminal station disrupted the afternoon and evening commute on Feb. 27, with officials reporting no injuries, as reported by CBS News New York.

Still, the PATH area at Hoboken station was evacuated around 11:30 a.m., and service to and from the terminal remained suspended through the evening as repairs continued.
Meanwhile, Port Authority New Jersey and New York spokesperson Lenis Valens said the evacuation was ordered because of the track fire. The Hoboken Fire Department and Port Authority police responded, and Hoboken Emergency Services posted on social media at 1:13 p.m. that the “small” fire was extinguished.

Hoboken PATH fire: service suspended and repairs underway
With repairs underway, PATH service suspended Feb. 27 meant trains were not running to or from Hoboken for the rest of the day. At the same time, all service to and from the PATH’s Hoboken station was expected to remain suspended through the evening.
NJ Transit alternate services for Morris-Essex and Montclair-Boonton lines
Also, New Jersey Transit told riders traveling from New York City on the Morris-Essex and Montclair-Boonton lines to use NJ Transit alternate services to connect to westbound trains, including guidance outlined in a NJ TRANSIT service advisory. Customers were encouraged to:
• Take NJ Transit train service from PSNY to Newark Penn, then connect via Newark Light Rail to Broad St. and transfer to M&E and MOBO trains.
• Take NJ Transit Bus 126 from PABT to Hoboken.
• Take the NY Waterway Ferry from Midtown W. 39 St. Pier to Hoboken beginning at 4:10 p.m.
If customers used buses 126 and 87, NJ Transit light rail, or NY Waterway ferries, NJ Transit said it would cross-honor PATH services.
Valens said other alternatives include PATH trains between 33 St and WTC to accommodate transfers at Newport for NJ TRANSIT light rail service, NJ Transit bus #126 and #87, NJ TRANSIT light rail at HOB, Exchange Place, and Newport, and NY Waterway ferries at HOB and Brookfield Place. PATH services in Hoboken take people to and from New York City.
Portal North Bridge construction and Gateway program diversion context
Separately, there has been an uptick in people using PATH services as construction of the new Portal North Bridge, a major part of the Gateway program, has caused some travelers who would normally take NJ trains directly into New York City to instead use a connection line on PATH, as previously covered by Railway Supply.
Midtown Direct trains on the Morris & Essex (M&E), Gladstone Branch, and Montclair-Boonton Line lines are being diverted to Hoboken from Feb. 15 through March 15.
