The project demonstrated its effectiveness by significantly reducing travel time between these major cities.

Since October 2023, the railway has completed over 15,826 trips, covering a total of 2.57 million kilometers. The number of daily trains increased from 14 to 52, expanding seating capacity from 8,400 to 31,000. The highest daily passenger count reached 24,132.

The high-speed rail runs entirely on electricity, reducing fuel consumption and emissions significantly. This shift has saved Indonesia about $208 million annually in fuel costs. Green energy plays a crucial role in the sustainability of the project.

From 2019 to 2023, the Indonesian government reported that the high-speed rail project contributed $5.62 billion to the GDP of Jakarta and West Java. This underscores the project’s impact on economic growth in the region.

Benefits of the high-speed rail

With a top speed of 350 km/h, the high-speed rail slashed travel time between Jakarta and Bandung from over three hours to just 46 minutes. This change makes commuting faster and more convenient for millions of passengers.

Environmental impact of the high-speed rail

The project’s environmental benefits are another major advantage. The use of electricity and the reduction in emissions have lessened its environmental footprint, which is vital for Indonesia’s densely populated regions.

The project continues to expand, adding more trains and improving infrastructure, providing greater opportunities for passengers and fostering economic growth.
