The program “FREE Rail” initiated by LTG: GTC will install the Estonian locomotive safety system in rolling stock, according to the Railway Supply journal.
Lietuvos Geležinkeliai (LTG) Group, which aims for full integration with Europe and implements the “FREE Rail” program, consistently continues the renovation of the locomotive safety systems (LSS) currently used in the rolling stock. In May, a contract was signed with the Estonian company “SLD Consult OÜ” for the installation of new LSS in the rolling stock of the Group company “Geležinkelio tiesimo centras” (GTC).

LTG consistently implements continuous actions aimed to strengthen integration with Europe. Among the actions implemented by the Group’s companies, there are steps to adapt Western technological solutions to the railway tracks operated in Lithuania as well.
“We maintain a strong value position, which is why we consistently aim to fully integrate with Europe – both in terms of business relations, infrastructure and technology. The installation of a new locomotive safety system highlights the commitment of LTG to open the 1520 mm railway track and rolling stock operated in Lithuania to Western technological solutions and the global market,” says Edvinas Kerza, Chief Resilience Officer at LTG.
As GTC CEO Justas Vyžintas points out, the installation of technologically more advanced LSS in rolling stock implemented by repair vehicles of GTC will also contribute to more efficient work planning.

“Thanks to the technological solutions in the LSS being implemented by the Estonian company, the testing of the system in rolling stock takes place much faster than with previous systems. This will make it possible to carry out railway track repair works more efficiently and improve the quality of services provided to customers”, says J. Vyžintas.
The new LSS is aimed to be implemented as quickly as possible, considering the capabilities of SLD Consult OÜ, which provides the service. According to the signed contract, the installation of new LSS in four GTC track repair vehicles will be completed by the end of this year.
Replacement of locomotive safety systems in rolling stock of LTG Group has been executed for some time. The LSS system of another manufacturer has already been installed and tested in the intelligent diagnostic vehicle used by the Group company LTG Infra to assess the state of railway tracks. Likewise, it is used in three locomotives used by LTG Cargo. The mentioned system was produced by the Ukrainian manufacturer “Impuls”.
